The Advanced Search

If the Quick Search isn’t providing you with the results you are looking for then you may want to try the Advanced Search. A link to the Advanced Search can be found underneath the Quick Search.

The Advanced Search:

  • Allows you to include phrases and keywords and also to include words that you don't want to appear in your search.
  • Allows you to search across more than one sector.
  • Allows you to be more specific on the location in which you wish to work
  • Offers extra options to search for management, graduate or charity/non-profit roles.

Keywords

As described in the Quick Search help, the keyword fields search text for matches in job titles and descriptions. This field enables you to specify more accurately the job you are looking for and will means that the most relevant jobs appear nearer the top of the list.

Example of how you could use the keyword fields:

  • including all of the words: French, shorthand
  • including the exact phrase: office experience
  • including at least one of the words: expenses, diary
  • not including the words: filing

You can also use inverted commas to mark out exact phrases. This is useful if you are searching for an exact job title or perhaps a software package such as "MS Project" or a programming language such as "VB Script".

Sectors

Each job posted on reed.co.uk will have been placed in a job sector. The advanced search enables you to select more than one sector. To do so, simply hold the CTRL key down whilst making multiple sector selections.

Salary/Pay Rate

As well as entering an upper and lower limit for your expected salary you can make the search relevant to the type of work you are looking for. For example, if you are looking for temporary work then you may wish to search by hourly or weekly rate rather than per annum. Similarly, if you are contracting you may want to look at daily rates.

Examples of how you could enter your salary/pay rate requirements:

  • From: £12000 To: £15000 per annum
  • From: £6.50 To: £8.50 per hour

Location

There are two ways to specify a location:

  1. You can enter a town in the free-text box and select a distance from that town (eg. Manchester within 30 miles)

Or

  1. You can select a region from the dropdown. (eg. North West)

Job Type

You can select any number of job types to act as search parameters. The job type will be clearly displayed on the job description.

More Options

If you are only interested in management, graduate or charity/not for profit roles you can indicate this here. You can also limit your search results to only return jobs added in the previous day, 2 days, week or month. This is particularly useful if you visit reed.co.uk on a regular basis and only want to see new jobs.

Ticking the box for "Show job summaries on job results page" means that your search results will contain a short synopsis of each job description. You can un-check this box, if you would prefer just to see the basic details for the job in your search results.
